What’s a wifi finder that actually works?

Matt M asked:

I need a keychain wifi finder that's cheap and actually works. I have a Kensington WiFi Finder Plus model 33066 and it works great if there's only one network but if there are 2 or more strong signals it says there's nothing even if there are dozens of networks in range.

Any recommendations? I'd like to keep it under $30 (preferably under $20)
I don't want to order it online, I want to get it at a local store like CircuitCity, BestBuy, RadioShack, Staples, Office Depot, WalMart, etc. because I'd have to pay with cash.
It's my own network so that's not an issue. I was going to survey how far my second AP extends the range...only to find with 2APs it won't find anything...

This thing also can't find a signal in my college even though there's both student and staff wifi antennas in almost every room...

I bought a lynksys USB rangefinder for my desktop so I could use my niegbors wifi. I have permission!, anyways, I am not getting any signals on my network connections monitor but my laptop gets the connection just fine, is there something blocking the connection or do I need to enable something on my desktop? im runny XP.
